The Noisettes
Most people rarely have anything unique to say on the subject of music. But as it goes with assholes and opinions, a cliché comment like, “I listen to everything except jazz” or the all too familiar “Anything but country” never cease to escape. Opinions, assholes and clichés aside, I must say my taste in music over the years has developed into quite the eclectic collection. There is no rhyme or reason behind my preference I just enjoy any song that has that certain je ne sais quoi about it.
As a child I religiously replayed my collection of Cruisin’ Classics cassette tapes and searched for answers to the injustice of not having been born earlier, in an era where one could freely wear poodle skirts and saddle shoes. Oddly, this transitioned to a period of my angst ridden pubescent years wherein my tastes somehow managed to ping pong between grunge and country. Don’t judge…it was a very confusing time for us all. In high school, my CD collection rapidly grew as I fell into an all out love affair with hip-hop. Since then, my (several) not-always-so-trusty little iPods have managed to accumulate everything from the revival of the 80’s – not that I believed they ever disappeared – to a small selection of house music related to memories of an unspeakable two week holiday in New Zealand.
Yes, these little cells in my brain provide me with the ability to recite the lyrics of everything from an ICP to an Elton John song. (Note: If you are unfamiliar with ICP or “Insane Clown Posse” please do NOT look them up). This is incredibly fascinating when you consider the fact that I’m still not completely comfortable with “8’s” on the multiplication table.
Thanks to the always amazing Ellen show, I recently discovered this little gem of a group to add to my mishmash music collection, The Noisettes. This London trio is the perfect musical concoction to my ears. I knew I was a goner after watching their performance of ‘Never Forget You’ last week. It reminds me of eating sweet and sour candy….sweet….no, sour…disco…no, pop…music to the ears for anyone who find their tastes to be eclectic, cliché or just plain indecisive.
